Metro Vancouver gas prices up nearly 20 cents per litre

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Brace yourself for sticker shock if the needle on your gas gauge is creeping toward empty.

Pump prices across Metro Vancouver have shot up again and they are nearly $0.20/litre higher than they were just a week and a half ago.

The uptick in prices has to do with maintenance work being done on a major pipeline down in Washington state; the work will shut down operations all of next week.

Dan McTeague, senior analyst with GasBuddy, explains there are concerns about a lack of supply for the region and that’s why prices are being driven up.

“Let’s wait and see what the next few days holds as far as the future of price increases. But there is no relief really in sight for the next little while.”

“There is a significant amount of concern about supply. Therefore, prices are going up to somehow limit the demand. These things don’t necessarily happen over a period of time, they tend to happen very suddenly and very dramatically.”

We here in BC are not the only ones affected; Americans are also paying more per gallon — something to keep in mind if you ever head south to fill up.

However, higher gas prices usually drain the wallets of British Columbians more than anyone else nationwide, as we pay some of the highest gas taxes in the country.
